I’ve often observed that so-called “stars”–whether starring in the sports world, the entertainment world, or the political world seem unable to grasp the obvious reality that stardom virtually never confers wisdom and even less often confers classiness. 

How else can we explain grossly intemperate behaviors by sport heroes, entertainment idols, and political victors who flout accepted standards of conduct and legality other than that they firmly believe they are so far above those standards and legalities, so far removed from rules governing the hoi polloi, so deeply imbued  with an assumed wisdom bolstered by irrational hubris that they are entitled to do and say anything they damned well please?

Aldon Smith, linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers, is only the latest in a very long line of celebrities, a shameful line including Justin Bieber and Barack Hussein Obama, who haven’t learned the extremely valuable lesson that they may be “stars” in their chosen fields but are severely lacking in almost everything else. . . .
