Some 40 million people are expected to tune in Sunday night to watch the 86th annual AcademyAwards when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences pats itself on the back for jobs well done and confers Oscars on those actors, actresses, directors, etc. who best reflect excellence in the film industry–and who are deemed most politically correct in conforming to Hollywood’s liberal-leftist standards of achievement.

True, there are rare exceptions to that unwritten rule, when the almost 6,000 Academy voting members are beset by nagging guilt over their biased choices and toss a bone to a conservative.  That conscience attack occurred in 1970 when they awarded Republican conservative John Wayne the Oscar for Best Actor in “True Grit.”

More probably, they were rewarding Wayne for being a liberal during his misguided younger days.

However, almost always, they reserve their top honors for those who obediently march in their political lock step and this year there will be no exceptions to the Academy’s cardinal PC rule.

Don’t expect writer-director Peter Berg or actor Mark Wahlberg to walk to the stage at L.A.’s Dolby Theater to accept an award for “Lone Survivor” anymore than Mel Gibson was recognized by the movie industry for his 2004 “Passion of the Christ. 

You see, Hollywood-types despise war movies that depict incredibly courageous American soldiers who sacrifice their lives out of a sense of national honor as much as they can’t stand religious movies even if they are accorded multiple other awards, attract record audiences, and earn over $600,000,000.

No one could really know what was going through the mind of 78 year old Woody Allen when Ronan Farrow sarcastically tweeted immediately following last month’s 71st Golden Globes Awards show. 

After Allen received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement, Farrow went on Twitter to tweet, “Missed the Woody Allen tribute–did they put the part where a woman publicly confirmed he molested her at age 7 before or after Annie Hall?” 

As per habit, Allen didn’t show up for his umpteenth award and dispatched one his idolators, former live-in Diane Keaton of Annie Hall fame, to pick it up.

What Mr. Farrow was thinking in that tweet is pretty obvious, intense musings surely shared by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and, indeed, by all of Hollywood who knew very well what he meant and none of whom saw fit to comment–or refute.  After all, Woody Allen is a living treasure, an unparalled icon in Tinsel Town, and who would dare to be so presumptive as to cite him as a serial child molestor?

Bestowed by the Golden Globes for ”outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment,” the Cecil B. DeMille Award is clearly not based on a recipient’s character and integrity any more than character and integrity influence Oscar nominations.

Similarly, no one can really know what Allen was thinking after he read the account of the former 7 year old, Ronan’s molested woman, published in the New York Times, an open letter written by none other than Ronan’s sister Dylan Farrow, Allen’s reputed biological daughter.

Farrow’s tweet was quickly dismissed by such Allen-Twitter loyalists as Antonio Vantaggiato who wrote, ”Sorry to hear @RonanFarrow’s rage, and @thelist which fuels it, but Woody is one of the greatest film directors and deserved the tribute,” in essence saying, “So what if he’s a child predator!” . . . Who are the real West Memphis Three?  The three 8 year old boys who were tortured and sadistically murdered on May 5th, 1993 and whose sexually mutilated, lifeless bodies were found the next morning in a drainage canal in the Robin Hood Hills area of West Memphis, Arkansas?  Or, the three teenaged reprobates  who confessed to savagely killing them, were convicted, sentenced to life in prison or death, and were released after 18 years, 78 days with a ten year “Suspended Imposition of Sentence”?

If you believe Hollywood and the liberal-leftist mainstream media–but why would you?–the true West Memphis Three are the confessed murderers, Damien Echols,  Jessie Misskelley, and Jason Baldwin.  If you prefer to trust common sense, you would choose the innocent child victims, Stevie Branch, Christopher Byers, and Michael Moore. 

Astute and well-informed Hollywood types such as Johnny Depp, comedian Margaret Cho, musicians like Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, Henry Rollins, and the Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines, reflexively flocked to defend the murderers and no less than five movies/documentaries plus a dozen or so supportive books, including one by the satanic leader of killers who had been condemned to death, Damien Echols, have convinced most people that he and his fellow sadists were victims of various miscarriages of justice. 

Just as in the OJ Simpson trial when a jury of his peers, although not most American peers, overruled the evidence that Simpson was guilty as sin through the farcical “jury nullification” gambit, liberal-leftists who are notorious for being suckers for criminals and ignoring the victimized, overruled the West Memphis evidence and supplied much of the funding for the defendants’ legal appeals.  

On the side of truth and justice stand a number of less-well-heeled individuals and websites, most notably WestMemphisThreeFacts.com, who have exposed the actual miscarriage of justice, the conditional release of the miscreants onto America’s public streets. 

The website meticulously documents the incontrovertible DNA, circumstantial and physical evidence against Echols, Misskelley, and Baldwin as well as the numerous lies, the intentional distortions, the phony alibis, the false and discredited witnesses, and the repetitious, spurious “suspects” dredged up by their new high-powered and well-financed defense team in an effort to create a reasonable legal doubt in the guilt of the already-convicted trio.

Echols, Baldwin and Misskelley were released from prison on August 19th, 2011 as part of a bizarre ”Alford plea deal” in which defendants concede the prosecution had enough proof to convict them but nevertheless assert their innocence and plead “nolo contendere” or no contest. . . Most people have heard of Shakespeare’s famous and perceptive quotation about people that, “some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.”  Few people have heard of his less famous observation about people that, “some are born lucky, some make their own luck and some get away with atrocious behavior because they must know people in high places who let them get away with that conduct,” mainly since The Bard never wrote that.

Obviously.
Still–with apologies to Shakespeare–the latter non-quote fits the 55 year old arch liberal-leftist actor, Obama supporter, frustrated politician, and animal rights activist Alexander Rae Baldwin, better known as Alec Baldwin, to a perfect T. 
Baldwin has boldly and disgracefully gone where few if any Hollywood types have ever dared to go before, from hysterically screaming at his then-11 year old daughter Ireland, calling her “a rude, thoughtless, little pig” and threatening to “straighten [her] ass out,” to being tossed from an American Airlines flight after he became rudely belligerent, to dropping his pants on the Dave Letterman show. 
And those were only his familial and social explosions. 
When it comes to Baldwin’s wildly intemperate politically-related observations, he has notably and publicly said, “If we were in another country we  . . . would stone [conservative Republican congressman] Henry Hyde to death and we would go to their homes and kill their wives and their children. We would kill their families, for what they’re doing to this country.” 
He referred to former Vice President Dick Cheney as a terrorist, without providing any evidence that Cheney is anything other than a committed patriot.  
He characterized conservative commentator Sean Hannity as”a no-talent, ignorant fool,” “a cabin boy,” and “the Larry Flynt of talk radio, and compared Hannity’s behavior to “the stupidity that people often refer to when they think of George W. Bush and Sarah Palin.” 
He demeaned the late conservative publisher and commentator Andrew Breitbart as a “festering boil on the anus of public discourse.”
Nevertheless, despite all Baldwin’s exhibitions of classlessness and boorishness, despite his veiled threats and political slanders, despite his execrable gutter language, he retained his enviable status as Hollywood’s and TV land’s and Capital One Bank’s fair-haired-now-grey-haired boy.  The fact his admirers could overlook his many character flaws and nasty foibles is not surprising, however.  Aside from his vicious verbal attacks on a young child, maybe, his Tinseltown and television buddies probably approve heartily everything he has said and done.
Why Capital One, my own bank, keeps him on as a spokesman, though, is a mystery. 
A more profound mystery is why Baldwin has escaped censure and condemnation for his repeated homophobic eruptions, dating back years.  If Alec has been mercilessly savage with regard to gays, which he has been, the homosexual community has been equally ruthless in recent years in retaliating against any and all perceived offenders and offenses, reasonable or not. . . .
